Study at AIHI

Congratulations. You are thinking about doing a postgraduate degree and you would like to see whether you are eligible and what the requirements are.

This web page tells you what you need to know to assess whether you are eligible, and if so, how to apply to enter a postgraduate research degree program in any of the Centres of the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI). Currently there are four Centres: the Centre for Clinical Governance Research, Centre for Health Informatics, Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research and Simpson Centre for Health Services Research. Essentially, you will need to sort out some fundamental things: to find a research area and specific topic, a supervisory team, and approval to enter your higher degree program.

AIHI offers a unique program of multidisciplinary research training encompassing information, communication, cognitive and organisational science to support health service and biomedical innovation.

Our PhD program

  • Program code AIHI 1775

Our postgraduate program allows candidates to undertake advanced research leading to a postgraduate degree under the supervision of experienced senior research staff in one of AIHI’s research areas.  Detailed information on our Centres' specialist areas of research can be viewed here:

Internships and short research projects from another institution

We offer undergraduate honours and masters students from other institutions an opportunity to undertake short term research in an area of their interest. Depending on requirements of their home institution, students typically work with us over a period of three to six months on a well defined project within one of our research streams. These projects allow an outstanding opportunity for budding researchers to gain practical experience in undertaking research under the guidance of a domain expert, and provides exposure to life in a multidisciplinary research centre.

There are two phases to the process of entering a higher degree program:

Phase 1 is the application process

Phase 2 is the enrolment process

It is important to proceed through both phases of the process to ensure your enrolment is complete.
